City of Tampa Vulnerability Assessment
On April 7, 2025, Mayor Jane Castor announced the release of our City of Tampa Vulnerability Assessment. The study was led by our project manager, Brian Cook, PLA, and our interdisciplinary team of engineers, planners, and urban designers. Although not a requirement per the funding grant, the Vulnerability Assessment was certified by state-registered professional engineers to form the basis for the City's infrastructure planning and budgeting decision making. This approach provided extensive information regarding vulnerable infrastructure in the City and potential impacts on neighborhoods and communities.
At the press conference, the City also announced that it is acting on the assessment's findings to address one of the priority vulnerabilities - low-lying sanitary pump stations - via $94 million in projects to harden and improve 28 of the most critical ones. The press conference was led by the Mayor, the City's acting Resilience Officer, Kayla Caselli, and the City's Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager, Erik Garwell. We also send a shout out to former Resilience Officer Whit Remer, who guided the City's project. It is great to see our recommendations in action!
